OPASS March 2014 Meeting W/ Rodney Landrum

  • In-Person @ 4649 W. 1st ST. Sanford, Florida, United States (map)
  • 18:30 - 20:30 Eastern Daylight Time
  • Language: English

The Orlando SQL user group (OPASS) meets the third or fourth Thursday of every month at Logan's Roadhouse in Sanford, FL. We feature a different speaker every month covering a variety of topics. This is a free event centered around Microsoft SQL server, where everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. Come join us for free learning, networking, food, and fun.

Featured Presentation:

Data Analytics and the DBA – Using PowerView to Uncover Interesting Facts About Your SQL Servers

Rodney Landrum, Professional Services Manager Ntirety

DBAs do not always have time to work with some of the amazing visual data tools that are becoming common place now for analysts. In this presentation I will show how in just a few very easy steps you can learn more than the basics of PowerView, PowerPivot and Data Mining using data you are already familiar with as a DBA, your SQL Server installation data. We will analyze growth patterns in databases, witness job failures interactively across hundreds of servers, discover elevated permissions in a flash and watch a movie of your infrastructure growing and changing before your eyes.

Rodney Landrum went to school to be a poet and a writer. And then he graduated so that dream was crushed. He followed another path, which was to become a professional in the fun filled world of Information Technology. He has worked as a systems engineer, UNIX and network admin, data analyst, client services director and finally as a database administrator. The old hankering to put words on paper, while paper still existed, got the best of him and in 2000 he began writing technical articles, some creative and humorous, some quite the opposite. In 2010 he wrote The SQL Server Tacklebox, a title his editor disdained, but a book closest to the true creative potential he sought; he wanted to do a full book without a single screen shot. He promises his next book will be fiction or a collection of poetry, but that has yet to transpire.

About Rodney:
Rodney Landrum has been architecting solutions for SQL Server for over 12 years. He has worked with and written about many SQL Server technologies, including DTS, Integration Services, Analysis Services, and Reporting Services. He has co-authored 4 books on Reporting Services. He is been a regular contributor to SQL Server magazine, sqlservercentral.com and Simple-talk.com. Rodney is also SQL Server MVP
